The very elusive and rumoured Boplaas Gin was a surprise in my ginvent calendar!
This finely crafted gin from the Klein Karoo (South Africa) is produced by the Nel Family of Calitzdorp.
Boplaas is renowned for the wine it produces, however winemakers are not restricted to the wine presses. KWV, which produces exceptional brandy, wine and other spirits are also known for their Cruxland gin.
About the gin
Nose: Gentle aromatics of juniper berries and sweet citrus show behind a veil of vanilla and bruised herbs.
Palate: The sily palate is introduced by enticing sweet notes of Spring blossoms on a bed of earthy juniper juiciness, balanced balanced by a fine herbal bitterness that lingers with every sip.
Consist of 5 botanicals: Juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, cassia bark and orange peel.
Serving suggestion: Enjoy with a touch of water, over ice or a splash of quality tonic.
There’s not much to elaborate about this “craft gin”; but today I am sitting back in the bushveld and enjoying a truly South-African product. Are you in the festive vibe? Well, we are!
Available online from select distributors, also for sale direct from the farm.
