The Neochef LG Microwave with Smart Inverter – Convection Oven cooking adventure continues……
In my second post about this incredible piece of kitchen equipment, we tested the nifty Continental Menu options with a Chicken Curry.
I am a die-hard curry fan, and if there’s something that I enjoy cooking at home is the classical Butter Chicken, however, when the opportunity presented itself to take the LG Neochef for a spin with a curry, we took the challenge up with both hands.
I will admit that I had some doubt about cooking a chicken curry in a microwave; first of all cooking chicken poses a serious health risk if not cooked properly, secondly will the curry be orange-coloured stew posing as a curry?
Well, we certainly speculated about worst case scenarios, ranging from “if it tastes bad, we can throw it out” to “if we die from under-cooked chicken then the taste won’t even matter”….yes, indeed serious business.
Well, here goes….(with some help from the LG Oriental Menu Recipes).
400g chicken breasts, cut into chunks
1/4 cup olive oil
2 EA onions, chopped
4 EA garlic cloves, crushed
1 EA ginger root, peeled
1 EA cinnamon stick
2 EA dried red chilies
1 teaspoon ground tumeric powder
400g tomato sauce, tinned
1/2 cup water or good quality chicken stock
1/2 cup plain yogurt*
1tablespoon lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
*Or prepare your own home-made yoghurt ahead of time with the LG Neochef Microwave.
Weight Limit : 1.5 kg
Utensil : Microwave-safe bowl
1. Add all ingredients in a deep and large bowl and mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in the plastic wrap for the steam to escape.
2. Place food in the LG Neochef microwave/convection oven. Choose the menu (see below) and press start to cook.
Tip: Stir at least twice during cooking, to ensure you turn the chicken pieces and mix all the seasonings together. Ensure you follow the quantity of ingredients as listed.
Easy to follow the recipe with 4 control pad steps:
Step 1 : Press “STOP/CLEAR” button at the bottom of the control pad.
Step 2 : Press “Menu you’d like to have” once [eg: “Continental Menu” once.]
Step 3 : Choose the weight of ingredient “Press MORE four times to enter 0.4 kg.”
Step 4 : Press “Start” and let the machine do its magic!
- To finish: Carefully remove the dish from the LG Neochef microwave oven, take care to remove the plastic wrap (as the steam will escape). Serve with fluffy basmati rice or home-made naan and lots of chopped coriander.
Verdict: I never imagined that cooking a chicken curry in a microwave could be this delicious! I was pleasantly surprised with the robust flavour and tenderness of the chicken pieces. This makes one-pot-cooking a reality; at a quarter of the time.
And the best part? I was watching the container swirl around on the inside of the massive interior and it was as entertaining as binge-watching a series. The incredible LED light in the inside allowed me to closely monitor the cooking process. Now that’s tasty AND entertaining!
