12 Tonics to Christmas: Green Elf

With Christmas approaching and the festive season kicking off in full swing, how about a little “green helper” to treat your festive friends?

Today’s #12TonicsToChristmas is non-alcoholic and boasts a refreshing finish as an alternative to the traditional gin and tonics.  This drinks packs all the punch of a fruity and fresh g&t, but without the g(uilt).  This post is packed full of exciting items…take a look below.

THE TONIC

I selected the Fever-Tree Elderflower Tonic Water because it has a characteristic which stands on its own; but could dominate some of the milder gins commonly found today, leaving you with a tonic drink with lots of floral undertones.  The delicate and sweet flavour of elderflower is perfectly balanced by the soft bitterness of the quinine, which pairs perfectly with fresh and floral gins and premium vodkas; or on it’s own as a refreshing “adult soda”.

Sambucus nigra

To capture the finest elderflower flavour, Fever-Tree sources handpicked flowers from a small Gloucestershire farm on the edge of the Cotswolds. Renowned for growing some of the highest quality elder bushes in the UK, the elderflowers are hand-collected on the farm between May and June when the region is in full bloom. The flowers are picked at sundown when they are at their freshest and the unique flavour extraction process begins within hours, ensuring that none of the delicate floral flavour is lost.

THE ACCOMPANIMENTS

I’ve used the Apple-flavoured Bursting Boba and Lime Tonic Syrup from Bubble Tea Shop Online as additions to this flavourful tonic, giving it a fresh kick.

Bursting Boba, also known as Popping Pearls/ Juice Balls/ Pobbles are edible little treats that burst in your mouth with liquid flavour when bitten.

It is a seaweed extract (a gel like skin) wrapped around a  juice through a process known as spherification and is a complementary good that goes with Bubble Tea and Frozen Yogurt normally but can be used in cocktails or on any other application you can dream of.

THE STRAW

The edible straws from the Spanish brand Sorbos are made from sugar. The straws are for sale in different flavors. From strawberry to chocolate and lime. The edible straws of Sorbos stay in a drink for about forty minutes. They are packed individually and therefore hygienic.
