Bulletproof Coffee

Bulletproof Coffee, also known as butter coffee, is an energizing beverage made with quality fats and high-quality coffee.
The recipe is easy: just blend together coffee, MCT oil and grass-fed butter or ghee.

When you drink Bulletproof Coffee instead of eating a carb-heavy breakfast, you’ll feel satisfied and energized for hours. It’s great on keto/LCHF or Banting diets.

Where did it come from?

The_founder_of_Bulletproof_Coffee-132bc6ef6c4573d2c8d3a43ebe6f260bDave Asprey was a successful Silicon Valley entrepreneur when his health really started to take a hit, he was obese, chronically tired, and his brain function was starting to suffer.
For years, he tried restricting calories and working out every day. Nothing helped. By the time he was 30, Dave’s doctors told him he was at strong risk for a stroke or heart attack — not at some indeterminate time in the future, but soon.

Dave got the idea for Bulletproof Coffee after a trek in Tibet in 2004. At 18,000 feet above sea level and -10 degrees Fahrenheit, his energy was plummeting — until he staggered into a guest house and a local handed him a creamy cup of yak butter tea.
The biohacker in him wondered why the tea made him feel so good, and he embarked on years of research into the power behind the ingredients. Eventually, Dave substituted tea for mold-tested coffee, and yak butter for regular grass-fed butter or ghee.
Brain Octane oil was the final missing piece. And the right blend of these three ingredients (the right coffee, the right MCTs and grass-fed butter) finally gave Dave the same feeling he first experienced in that hut high up in the Tibetan mountains. That’s how Bulletproof Coffee was born.

Brain Octane or MCT oil is a highly concentrated source of medium-chain triglycerides. It is man-made, through a process called fractionation. This involves extracting and isolating the MCTs from coconut or palm kernel oil. MCT oils generally contain either 100% caprylic acid (C8), 100% capric acid (C10) or a combination of the two.

6009657580020-1-full.jpgMCT oil was initially used to help treat diseases such as cystic fibrosis, obesity, and fat malabsorption. Then athletes, bodybuilders and diet gurus jumped on the MCT bandwagon, embracing its fat-burning and energy-sustaining powers. And now MCTs are centre-stage as they are potent ketogenic fats that can be used effectively by those on the Banting diet.

When MCTs are absorbed into the blood stream, they bypass the normal digestion process that fats go through and are instead metabolised immediately by the liver for energy, so they won’t be stored in the fat cells.

When a meal includes medium chain triglycerides, there is a significant increase in the number of calories burned (thermogenic effect). When more calories are used, fewer are stored as fat, which helps to reduce body fat levels.

Yield: 1 Cup

You need:

  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) MCT Oil
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) Quality Unsalted Butter
  • Quality Coffee (freshly brewed, or instant and boiling water)
  • Blender

And then?

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and frothy.
  2. Serve immediately.

For added sweetness, you can add one spoon of FreeSweet Vanilla sugar alternative.

Let me know what you think.

It’s like a kiss from the coffee; leaving you with glossy lips and a feeling of fullness.
